Children bury time capsule as Moorlands Lodge cedlebrates Topping Out

Published: 7th July 2011

Children from the neighbouring Stepping Stones School buried their own time capsule as the new Moorlands Lodge care community at Hindhead celebrated its official Topping Out ceremony.

The ceremony marked the completion of the building’s roof structure. The last turret to be completed was finished with a lead finial embossed with the initials of the people who have already decided to move into Moorlands Lodge when it opens in the autumn.

As part of the celebration neighbours Stepping Stones School buried a Time Capsule. Pupils Amie Humphries, Ryan Shore, Jessica Butler and Joe Shaw, supported by head teacher Neil Clark, selected a range of school memorabilia for the capsule, including photographs of the school and students, a timetable and a DVD of their recent end of term prom. Also inside is arguably the gadget of our times – a mobile phone.

Creenagh Williamson, General Manager of Moorlands Lodge, said: “This marks the first of many events that Moorlands and Stepping Stones will collaborate on, promoting inter-generational friendship and support.”

The Chief Executive of Signature Senior Lifestyle, Tom Newell hosted the ceremony, together with senior executives from the developers, Mansell Construction Services. Mr Newell presented a photograph of the finial to Nancy Kay, one of the residents due to move in in a few months time.

Said Tom Newell: “This is an incredibly exciting day for us. The beautiful building is not just what makes it special – it is the wonderful team that brings heart to the business and the philosophy that we use to approach care and nurturing of those who honour us by moving into our community. I am so excited to think about how this will be in six months when it is vibrant with people and staff.”

Creenagh Williamson added: “I would like to thank the construction team for completing the show suites, and giving us the opportunity of showing people what living at Moorlands Lodge will really look like’

Also at the topping out was the Mayor of Haslemere, Councillor Jim Edwards, who spoke enthusiastically not only about the beautiful new structure, but also of the employment opportunities that Moorlands Lodge will provide to the local community.

Moorlands Lodge will have 97 apartments, made up of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.

It will have an entirely new approach to care by creating a senior living community. Residents will rent their own individual apartments – and will truly have “their own front door”.

Moorlands Lodge will feature a licensed restaurant, Signature cafe and library together with a health and beauty emporium. There will be a stimulating activities programme which will include regular outings, visiting entertainers, musical events and themed evenings, together with a full in house programme and variety of clubs. Also on offer is a specially designed communal living area and programmes within the community for residents suffering from dementia.
