MedaPhor wins best start up title in Welsh awards

Published: 27th November 2006

MedaPhor, a joint venture between interactive media specialists, medical educationalists and Cardiff University, is an e-learning company which produces innovative training products for postgraduate medical professionals.

Awarded the ‘MediWales Startup Award’ MedaPhor was recognised as a company that has been trading for up to 3 years and has successfully established its position in the market.

The company impressed the judges with its ground breaking online gynaecological ultrasound training modules.

Medical Director Dr Nazar Amso, said: "Until now, ultrasound training has been dependent largely on patient contact in the clinical setting. These tutorials provide students with the opportunity to learn the principles of the techniques and the correlation of hand movement with the ultrasound images on the screen.

"This will considerably simplify and speed up the process of learning and equally allow students to practice in their own time before undertaking the procedures on patients.

Available online, MedaPhor modules can be used for home and classroom study. Each interactive tutorial offers step by step training in the understanding of the basics of the anatomical relationship of scanning ultrasound for gynaecological examination.

MedaPhor Managing Director Peter Gill said: "The gynaecology modules are only the first of many more MedaPhor e-learning modules - obstetrics tutorials covering normal early pregnancy features, early pregnancy failure and ectopic pregnancy will be amongst 20 modules to be released in 2007".

The event was attended by Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Health and Social Services, Dr Brian Gibbons AM.

MedaPhor will now be entered in MediLink's UK national awards competition which will be held in February 2007.
