A great start for Ellesmere House
Ellesmere House a new nursing and residential home for older people in Chelsea has received a two-star rating following a recent inspection by the CSCI, the Commission for Social Care Inspection. Two stars is the highest rating a new home can achieve in its first inspection.
This is an excellent result for Ellesmere House, which opened in this year and is run by Care UK for the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Ellesmere House is a modern home, with bright open spaces, a sensory garden, and a working garden where residents can plant and grow whatever they choose. The home has 60 single rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms.
The unannounced CSCI inspection took place on 29th May, and inspectors spent 10 hours at the home talking to the management, the staff, and residents and their families.
Following news of the two-star rating Therese Laurent, home manager at Ellesmere House, said: “This is a terrific rating for a brand new home. I am so proud of our staff who make sure that the residents receive the care and attention they deserve. I really want our residents to feel happy here”.
The aim of Care UK’s unique Activity Based Care is to concentrate on abilities and enable residents to stay as active and independent as possible. This is achieved through continuing to support residents to undertake the activities which they have enjoyed throughout their lives at whatever level they are able.
Residents at Ellesmere House have access to a multi-professional healthcare team on-site. All staff have been recruited specifically for Ellesmere House, and must meet the specifications for the individual way care is provided there . They are highly skilled, and have received special additional training in areas such as dementia awareness, protection of vulnerable adults, and palliative care.
Among the comments quoted by the CSCI in their report:
‘ It’s like a 5 star hotel with care thrown in.’
‘Provides a first class service where even the smallest requirement or detail is attended to with charm and courtesy.’
‘Since my mother was admitted in March, she has taken on a new lease of life.’
