The best of both worlds - NFA and Church of Scotland

Published: 9th December 2009
A partnership between the Church of Scotland and the National Fostering Agency will mean greater choices for Scotland’s ‘looked after children’ who require flexible care solutions to help and support their much varied and complex needs.

Peter Bailey, CEO of the Church of Scotland Social Care arm (CrossReach), welcomes this partnership: “Working together with National Fostering Agency in Scotland will provide greater choices for the children we have the privilege of looking after for periods of their lives.

"The combined skills of our dedicated carers and staff will open new doors for many vulnerable young people who might not otherwise have enjoyed the experience of family life. ‘Include me in’ Children’s Services, delivered through CrossReach, already provides day care, short term residential care, through care and Residential School placements across Scotland. This partnership between the National Fostering Agency and the Church of Scotland complements those services and gives everyone the best of both worlds.”

Iain Anderson, CEO of the National Fostering Agency said: “NFA is committed to improving children and young people's lives and outcomes each and every day.

"The best place for children is to live with their families, but when this is not possible the next best solution is an alternative family. However some children and young people and the families that care for them need some really specialist support both in and away from the home environment.  Children are all individuals with individual and unique needs; and for those children who have very special needs, there is never a ‘one size fits all’ solution.

"The National Fostering Agency is one of the most experienced and long established independent fostering agencies in the United Kingdom and we are delighted to have forged this collaboration with the Church of Scotland.  I firmly believe that together we can make a positive difference in many children’s lives and improve their future.”

Together the Church of Scotland and NFAS will offer a wide range of fostering, crisis care, therapeutic, residential and intervention services to Local Authorities in Scotland.
