Former patients return to celebrate Treatment Centre’s fourth anniversary

Published: 16th November 2010
It was a prescription of flowers and chocolates as the Mid Kent NHS Treatment at Maidstone Hospital celebrated its fourth anniversary by welcoming back former patients.

Among those invited to the celebrations were Mary Hadlum, who was the very first patient to be treated in November 2006. Mary, from Denton Close, Maidstone, was joined by the 40,000th patient, Kathleen Turner, from New Hythe Lane, Larkfield.

Said Mary: “It seems quite a while ago now, but I was very well cared for when I was here and could not fault the treatment I received.”

Mary and Kathleen, together with chemotherapy patient Susan Corner, from Rotherfield in East Sussex, were presented with their flowers and chocolates by the Treatment Centre’s General Manager, Ruth Christie.

Said Ruth: “It is a real boost for staff to see former patients again. This is celebrating our fourth year of a five year contract and obviously we hope to be able to continue providing services beyond that time. We have now treated more than 60,000 patients in all and we have shown that we have become an important part of healthcare provision in Kent. Because of this we are also considered to be one of the most successful Treatment Centres in the country.”

“Our approval ratings are always very high, with patients’ satisfaction scores between 97 and 99 per cent. We have also had no cases of MRSA or C Difficile. We have a very committed team here and that shows in the way we deliver our care.”

The Mid Kent NHS Treatment Centre is run for NHS patients by Care UK, a leading independent provider of health and social care. It is the only independently run centre to provide chemotherapy treatment, and also offers day case surgery and gastroenterology. It has added additional services since opening, including hernia treatment via GP referrals on the Choose & Book system.
